SG an abbreviation for Sturmgewehr which translates to "Rifle" is the designation given to the new rifle being developed for the Swiss Army as a modern, modular combat rifle that can be configured and deployed for numerous roles.
The 552 or "Commando" variant of the SG55x series of rifles features a shorter barrel making it the most compact in its line. It's intended purpose was to fill the role for a compact weapons system for Special Units, Vehicle Crews, Paratroopers, and Law Enforcement where a larger profile weapon is not necessary or unwieldy to field.
