The process involves minimal take-up and a release force that ranges from medium to light. Engaging the bolt produces a distinctive, satisfying sound and a palpable movement forward.
Shooting Performance: In a preliminary shooting assessment, I recorded an average velocity exceeding the advertised 394 FPS, reaching approximately 430 FPS. Engaging targets from 30 feet away in a semi-supported stance, I achieved a 1.75-inch grouping from 17 shots, an impressive feat given the unconventional handling required by the M1891's design. Adapting to its grip, akin to a rifle's yet without shoulder support, may require some practice.
Construction and Durability: The construction of the Gletcher M1891 reflects high quality, evident in its substantial weight and the solidity of its bolt action. True to the original Mosin Nagant, the replica's metallic components are faithfully reproduced, including a comprehensive drop-out magazine for BBs and CO2. Despite the synthetic wood stock, which arguably offers enhanced durability over natural wood, the replica's overall finish and detailing, particularly the silver bolt, are commendable. However, the external coating, susceptible to wear, might need occasional touch-ups.
Authenticity: While I haven't personally handled a genuine Mosin Nagant Rifle, comparisons with online images suggest the Gletcher M1891's faithful reproduction, notwithstanding necessary modifications for CO2 and BB compatibility. Its weight adds to its authentic feel, though the synthetic stock is the primary indicator of its replica status. Interestingly, it’s been noted that an actual Mosin Nagant stock could be modified to fit the Gletcher M1891, hinting at its dimensional accuracy.
