William Scully Ltd. manufactured badges for the Department of Militia and Defence in the days of single services going as far back as the Boer War. Over the past century, many of these badges, with their old devices and mottoes, often received new frames, and yet some land force badges have never changed. Some are new badges since unification, and recently some units have returned to earlier unit badges.
