Five-shot cylinder, 3 1/8" octagonal barrel with six-groove rifling and rib.

silver-plated brass frame, spur single-action trigger, walnut grips.

These were an infringement of Smith & Wesson’s patent; only 6000 made before
Springfield Arms lost the lawsuit to S&W. Post Lawsuit the cylinders had to be marked.

Cylinder is marked: PAT.APRIL 3.1855 MANUFACTURED FOR SMITH & WESSON

Excellent markings, mechanically
fine…remarkably it still has the little swivel catch for the loading gate. Many if not most
examples have lost both the catch and the gate over the years as they are very delicate.

Load gate retention clip was replaced with aftermarket screw and brass plate
