The cotton bandolier was issued full of ammo and was a quick way to get resupply ammo to the front line troops. The Garand cotton ammo bandolier's where initially designed to be thrown away after the ammunition had been loaded into the webbing pouches but they proved a very popular way of carrying extra ammunition by wearing them across the body.
